Plan the perfect local Babymoon

By Focus Online Team on April 29, 2019

A highlight for expecting parents in the 21st centure is planning the ultimate ‘babymoon’ before the little one arrives. For some couples, it’s a relaxing weekend away and for others a two-week getaway in the tranquility of the bush. For the parents-to-be looking for a local trip, there is nowhere more peaceful and practical than the Lowveld. Find out more below on our top tips for planning the perfect South African babymoon.

When it comes to accommodation around Kruger National Park, there are few options more tranquil or conveniently located than Hippo Hollow. On the estate there are three types of accommodation options to choose from; our River Chalets, our Garden Chalets and our Standard Rooms.

Overlooking the Sabie River, the River Chalets would be our top recommendation for ‘babymooners’ at Hippo Hollow. They offer lovely views of the river – frequented by hippos, elephants and birdlife – as well as a big main bedroom, a loft and a deck.

Without the river view, our Garden Chalets would be our second choice for expecting parents visiting Hazyview. They are perfect for couples and feature air-conditioning, WiFi and verandahs overlooking the pool or gardens.

Although our Standard Rooms are usually the choice of business travellers, they are perfectly comfortable, featuring en-suite bathrooms and balconies overlooking the estate.

Getting to Hippo Hollow in Hazyview

Hippo Hollow Country Estate is situated approximately 10 minutes from the famous Kruger National Park (Phabeni Gate), making it the perfect location for day visits. The hotel is the ideal base from which to explore Kruger, the scenic Panorama Route and the attractions and activities of the Kruger Lowveld. If it is still safe within your pregnancy to fly, we’d recommend flying into Kruger International Airport and then transfering to Hazyview. Alternatively, you can make the trip from Johannesburg which is roughly 4 hours’ drive.

If you’re interested in more than just a weekend getaway near Kruger National Park, consider visiting one of our sister hotels – Casterbridge Hollow in White River or Perry’s Bridge Hollow in Hazyview as well. Within the Greater Kruger Area, you might also consider a luxury stay in the bush at either Kings Camp in the Timbavati or Leopard Hills in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve.

A new baby brings with it many changes and lots of joy for new parents. Soak up the moments leading up to with a relaxing getaway at Hippo Hollow Country Estate in Hazyview.
