Hippo Hollow Restaurant
A standout among Hazyview restaurants, Hippo Hollow Restaurant occupies centre stage on the lush Hippo Hollow Country Estate. The restaurant has a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere where guests can wind down at the end of a day full of activities or discuss the highlights of a productive conference meeting. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating options and on warm summer evenings, meals can be enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the Sabie River down below.
Hippo Hollow Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily from an à la carte menu that is regularly updated, which provides new and innovative ways to present local seasonal food at its best. The lunch menu features a selection of salads, light meals, pizzas and grill menu items to tickle your tastebuds as well as a kids menu to keep the little ones happy.
The dinner menu is more refined with delicate starters, game and fish dishes, as well as vegetarian options and an enticing dessert menu. Dishes are inspired by both international and traditional South African cuisine. Meals can be complemented by a selection of fine South African wines from our cellar.
At Hippo Hollow Restaurant, you can enjoy a mouth-watering meal whilst taking in the sights and sounds of kingfishers and other beautiful water birds, watching Elephant Whispers elephants having their afternoon drink from the river, or the hippos grazing on the lawn against the backdrop of an African sunset. Seating 200 people, this light and spacious restaurant opens out onto an expansive covered deck area leaving guests feeling at one with nature.
For the quintessential South African ‘sundowner’ make sure to have a look at our signature cocktail menu. Unlike other Hazyview restaurants, along with traditional margaritas, daiquiris and mojitos, the restaurant serves charmingly named cocktails such as the ‘Hippo Mudslide’ and ‘Hollow Bug’ which is particularly refreshing on a hot day in the Lowveld.
Hippo Hollow Country Estate is nestled amongst lush indigenous gardens on the outskirts of Hazyview, and is only a 10 minute drive from the famous Kruger National Park. It is the ideal destination from which to access the reserves of the Lowveld and the sights of Mpumalanga.
